LANSING, Mich., June 2, 2022 — Today, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the investment of $368 million into rail infrastructure and safety grants to support 46 projects in 32 states, including two in Michigan. The list includes a grant of up to $21.3 million to rehabilitate track and rail assets operated by the Great Lakes Central Railroad north of Ann Arbor. State Rep. Felicia Brabec (D-Pittsfield) issued the following statement on the investment:
“Today’s announcement by Secretary Buttigieg of an over $21 million investment in our rail lines is hugely exciting for Washtenaw County and our whole state. Infrastructure projects, like this one north of Ann Arbor, are going to create thousands of high-quality jobs, strengthen our state’s supply chains and improve passenger rail lines to be more affordable, reliable and quick. I’m grateful to President Biden and Secretary Buttigieg for their commitment to improving our state’s infrastructure — including our railways — and look forward to even more funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law coming to supercharge our communities in the future.”
