LANSING, Mich., June 29, 2022 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer joined the Michigan Economic Development Corp. (MEDC) today to announce that HOLO Footwear, a sustainable footwear manufacturer, is relocating its headquarters to downtown Grand Rapids. The expansion illustrates the continued economic recovery and growth in the region and in the state more broadly. In response to the announcement, state Rep. Rachel Hood (D-Grand Rapids) expressed her excitement for the business relocation in the following statement:
“I am absolutely thrilled to hear the announcement of the creation of new high-wage jobs in Grand Rapids. It’s fantastic that HOLO Footwear — an environmentally conscious and minority-owned company — continues to grow, and I’m grateful they are bringing growth to our city. We are fortunate for its investment in our community, which will add quality local jobs and diversify our economic landscape. This is a welcome sign of the continued economic growth in Grand Rapids and in Michigan — it is most certainly a promising trend.”
The relocation of HOLO’s headquarters — supported by a $250,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant — is expected to generate a total capital investment of $1.5 million and bring 61 jobs to Grand Rapids. HOLO manufactures sustainable outdoor footwear that is accessible to a wide variety of consumers. The company uses recycled materials in each shoe with the goal of ensuring its products remain affordable for the average consumer. The company currently sells through retail partners including REI, Nordstrom, and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and plans to launch its own e-commerce operations at its facility in Michigan.
