LANSING, Mich., July 11, 2022 — Organizers for the Reproductive Freedom For All petition delivered signatures to the Bureau of Elections today. The petition would amend the Michigan Constitution to ensure that no one goes to prison for providing safe medical care as well as ensure access to a broad range of reproductive health care, including abortion. State Rep. Julie M. Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement on the delivery of the signatures:
“The organizers of this petition have gathered more than 750,000 signatures, more than any other ballot initiative in Michigan history. This speaks volumes about how Michiganders feel when it comes to bodily autonomy. Michiganders agree that abortion is a decision for an individual to make in consultation with a medical professional they trust. No two pregnancies are the same and no one needs or wants politicians making decisions for them. With these signatures, we are one step closer to voters having their say on the issue.”
