LANSING, Mich., Aug. 17, 2022 — Members of the House Democratic Caucus held a press conference today to denounce the lack of legislative session while Michiganders are paying the salaries of their representatives to tackle the issues affecting them. From high prices on gas and groceries to the threat of reproductive health care being taken away, Democrats have legislation ready to move, but Lansing Republicans who set the calendar won’t come back to work from their summer vacation. After the event, state Rep. Rachel Hood (D-Grand Rapids) issued the following statement:
“House Democrats stood up today to say it’s time for us to get back in session. Everyday Michiganders are my bosses, and I’m ready to get back to work for each and every one of them. There are so many important pieces of legislation just waiting to be moved forward — legislation that would make a better today and tomorrow for the hard-working people of Michigan. House Bill 4314 is a timely example. This Polluter Pay legislation will make clear the financial liability for reckless industrial practices and provide some semblance of peace of mind for our communities. It can help deter disasters like the toxic chemical spill in Oakland County that just recently happened. This bill is essential, and we need to pass it now. It’s time to work for Michigan.”
