TAYLOR, Mich., Sept. 13, 2022 — Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins on Sep. 15 and goes through Oct. 15, began as a way to promote the history, culture and contributions of Hispanic-Americans — specifically, those with ancestry from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. During this month, communities celebrate the achievements of Hispanic and Latino Americans with festivals and educational activities. State Rep. Alex Garza issued the following statement about Hispanic Heritage Month:

“I am grateful to be a part of the Hispanic community. As the first person of color elected to local office in Taylor’s history, and the youngest Hispanic serving in the state Legislature, I am proud to be a member of this community. I’m happy I was able to look at the prior achievements of people in this community for inspiration. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!”
