DEARBORN – State Representative George T. Darany (Dearborn) today praised the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences for awarding the Arab American National Museum a $150,000 grant. The funds will be used to educate young adults about the importance of Arab Americans in our society and increase understanding of the rich cultural heritage of the Arab American community.
“The Arab American National Museum in Dearborn is truly an educational and cultural treasure that embodies the rich contributions of Arab Americans in our community,” Darany said. “I am thrilled that they have been awarded this grant and that it will help the museum expand its outreach programs to educate our young people.”
The museum was one of 160 projects out of 481 applications nationally to receive a grant. The grant money will go toward expanding the museum’s educational outreach program to high school and college students in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. The project will include training, workshops, educational materials and travelling exhibits and will also expand the museum’s capacity and visibility as a resource for information about Arab Americans.
“It is so important that our young people have a better understanding of different cultures,” Darany said. “The Arab American National Museum will use these funds to increase the appreciation and awareness of the Arab American culture that enriches cities like Dearborn and other communities across the Midwest and our nation.”
