DEARBORN – Surrounded by family members, supporters and local leaders, State Representative-electGeorge T. Darany (D-Dearborn) was sworn into office Tuesday during a ceremony in Dearborn.
“It is a privilege to represent the residents of the 15th District, and I will work hard every day to make sure that state government is working for us,” said Darany, who will begin his first term when the 96th Legislature convenes in January. “As our voice at the Capitol, I will work in a bipartisan manner to put the most important priorities first, including supporting our small businesses, keeping our communities safe and making sure our schools can provide our children with a world-class education.”
Darany was sworn in by the Honorable Christopher Dingell, who serves as a judge in the 3rd Circuit Court in Detroit and is a former state legislator. Dingell administered the oath of office in Dearborn’s 19th District Court.
Darany was elected to the Dearborn City Council in 2007. Darany, a Realtor for 16 years, is the former owner and founder of Classic Trolley Co. He was Dearborn Goodfellows President for 2008-09, Dearborn Rotarian of the Year 2008-09, and is an usher at Sacred Heart Church. He is an Edsel Ford High School graduate and has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Michigan – Dearborn.
Also attending the swearing-in were Dearborn Mayor Jack O’Reilly; former State Representative Agnes Dobronski; former State Senator George Hart; Wayne County Commissioner Gary Woronchak; the Honorable William C. Hultgren; the Honorable Mark Somers; and Dearborn School Board member Hussein Berry.
“I was especially honored to have our former state legislators here, because they always stood up for what’s right for our community,” Darany said. “Their service sets an outstanding example for what a legislator should be, and one that I will work hard to live up to.”
