“As a former Detroit Public Schools teacher, I understand the impact that COVID-19 has had on Detroit’s schools. I am greatly appreciative of this step to level the playing field for schools impacted by poverty. The governor’s announcement of $65 million to increase student access to mental health services, connectivity and addressing learning loss couldn’t come at a better time. Especially when districts are faced with the grim reality of reopening schools this fall with differentiated instruction delivery models: face to face, virtual or hybrid, amidst such an enormous digital divide.
“This funding can truly help close the gap with needed technology and professional development while simultaneously ensuring the safest instruction platform during this global pandemic.”
