Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As you may know, Michigan’s district maps were redrawn before this year’s election. Starting Jan. 1, I will be representative of Eaton County’s new House District 76! This district includes Benton Charter Township, Brookfield Township, Carmel Township, Charlotte, Chester Township, Delta Township, Eaton Rapids, Eaton Rapids Township, Eaton Township, a small portion of Grand Ledge and Lansing, Hamlin Township, Olivet, Oneida Township, Potterville, Vermontville, and Windsor Township. I’m honored and delighted to continue to serve in the Michigan House.

I am also excited to announce that, next term, I will be the majority chair of the Committee on Appropriations for the state House of Representatives as well as the chair of the Committee on Committees, which is responsible for determining the scope, mission and members of each new House committee for the next Legislature.

Finally, I’d like to wish you, your family and your friends a very happy Thanksgiving! Please drive safely and celebrate the holiday responsibly. Our office will be closed Thursday and Friday to observe the holiday.

I am most effective at my job when acting on your direct input. I encourage you to reach out to me and my staff with any questions, comments or concerns you may have regarding our community or state and with any policy ideas.

Please do not hesitate to reach out by phone at (517) 373-0853 or send an email to AngelaWitwer@house.gov.

Sincerely,

Angela Witwer

State Representative, 71st House District

Turkey Pardoning

Earlier this week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer pardoned a turkey before Thanksgiving. The turkey’s name, Mitch E. Gander, was submitted by Seneca of Grand Rapids and Mia of Harper Woods. The name was selected from more than 6,000 entries in the statewide contest announced last week. Mitch E. Gander is the first turkey pardoned since the governor took office.

I am extremely proud to announce that Mitten Misfits Farm and Sanctuary located in Grand Ledge will be providing Mitch E. Gander with a forever home and sanctuary.

November Teacher of the Month

Each month, I highlight one of our district’s teachers. Who among us hasn’t had a teacher who’s deeply affected our lives? We owe these exceptional teachers so much. The least that I can do is shine a spotlight on these heroes who give so much of themselves for their communities. So, please, nominate one of the wonderful teachers in our district for November’s Teacher of the Month here so we can celebrate all they do for our community.

November Small Business of the Month

If you own a business or know of a business that you think should be recognized for its outstanding service to the community and its customers, please fill out the form here. I look forward to reading your submissions and showcasing a new small business in our community for November!

Small Business Saturday

I’d like to encourage you to shop locally this weekend in honor of Small Business Saturday! Small businesses are the backbone of our community. As a small-business owner myself, I know how hard it is to start a small business and how much they contribute to our communities. Buying locally keeps more money in our economy and helps create new jobs. It’s always a great time to support small businesses, especially this weekend.
