Legislative Updates
Supplemental Budget Passes Legislature, Signed by Gov. Whitmer
Last week, House Democrats passed supplemental spending bills — Senate Bills 842 and 844. The spending plan will replenish state funds aimed at funding key economic development projects and education. The spending will also work to attract companies and manufacturers looking to expand or relocate to Michigan. This is the kind of investing Michigan needs in order to be the innovative, competitive state it once was. Also, within the budget we’ve included college scholarships, to make Michigan students better prepared for the skilled jobs on the horizon.
Disability Employment Awareness Month
The House of Representatives passed my resolution, HR 357, declaring October 2022 as Disability Employment Awareness Month in Michigan. This resolution urges schools, businesses, governments and communities to further promote accessible, equitable and inclusive solutions to encourage employment for those with disabilities. This resolution also celebrates and recognizes the abilities and contributions individuals with disabilities have made in the workforce.
Events and Resources
Sister City Celebration
Sister city relationships began shortly after World War II as a way to promote greater friendship between cities across the world. These affiliations between the U.S. and other nations developed into a national initiative in 1956. Over 1,100 U.S. cities are now able to better participate in the global arena, thanks to sister city communities spanning across 122 countries worldwide. The city of Albion has held a sister city relationship with the city of Noisy-le-Roi, France for over 25 years. To celebrate the anniversary of establishing the special relationship between Albion and Noisy-le-Roi, please join us on Saturday Oct. 8, at the Ludington Center in Albion.
Stateside Communications
As a sitting legislator, I am required to follow a few specific rules that affect you, too. From Oct. 8 to Nov. 8, I will be unable to post on the legislative Facebook page or send out newsletters. I am able to respond to Facebook messages during this blackout period. Please don’t let this mass communication blackout stop you from reaching out, as my legislative office is still open, and my staff is standing by to help. You can also email me at JimHaadsma@house.mi.gov or give my office a call at (517)-373-0555.
I Want to Hear from You
