Transportation Committee
I am happy to announce that I will be chairing the Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure Committee during this legislative term. Having served on this committee for my previous two terms, I am excited to get started and ensure Michigan is heading down the right road.
House Bill 4001, Lowering MI Costs
Earlier this year, I introduced House Bill 4002 and co-sponsored House Bill 4001. These bills will increase the working families tax credit and repeal the retirement tax, respectively. These two bills have now been rolled into a larger tax relief package in House Bill 4001 called Lowering MI Costs. This bill has passed in the House and the Senate.
This bill will help low-income families, as well as retirees on fixed incomes, to be able to afford basic necessities such as food, utilities and other living expenses. The repeal of the retirement tax will bring over 500,000 households an average of $1,000 a year. The increase of the working families tax credit to 30% of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit will give back on average $750 in tax credits to those who qualify. Both measures will put millions of dollars back into the Michigan economy.
Coffee Hours
I will be hosting a coffee hour at 45116 Cass Ave. in Utica from 11 a.m. to noon on March 3. This provides an opportunity for residents of the district to come and discuss important concerns. I hope to see you there!
