LANSING – State Representative Phil Phelps (D-Flushing) was sworn in today on the House floor as the new representative for the 49th House District, which comprises parts of the city of Flint, the cities of Flushing, Swartz Creek and Mount Morris, as well as Flint Township and Mount Morris Township. Phelps was a special advisor for former House Democratic Leader Richard Hammel and chief of staff for current state Representative Pam Faris (D-Clio). He was joined at the ceremony by family and friends.
“I’m thrilled to be back in Lansing once again, now working for the residents of District 49,” Phelps said. “I’ve spent the past several months listening to the concerns that people in my district have, and I couldn’t be happier that voters chose me on Tuesday to represent our community. I’m ready to get to work fighting for our residents.”
The 49th House District seat became vacant when current state Senator Jim Ananich (D-Flint) ran for the vacant Senate seat in District 27 this past spring.
