LANSING — State Representative Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline) was pleased to announce that the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has awarded the village of Manchester nearly $3 million toward the full replacement of the Main Street Bridge over River Raisin. MDOT will give the money to Manchester in fiscal year 2016.
“This bridge is of vital importance to Manchester and its residents,” Driskell said. “The bridge connects the village of Manchester to M-52, the main trunkline highway in the area. Furthermore, the River Raisin, which the bridge spans, divides half of Manchester’s population from the local fire department. I’m glad to see MDOT invest in replacing this critical piece of infrastructure.”
MDOT’s Local Bridge Advisory Board approved the recommendation of the Regional Bridge Council that covers Washtenaw County. Driskell joined local elected officials in urging the board to approve this recommendation through a series of hearings. The grant will cover 95 percent of the costs to replace the bridge.
