LANSING, Mich., May 11, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its recommended fiscal 2023-24 state and school aid budgets yesterday. They include the largest investment in education in Michigan’s history and substantial investments in workforce recruitment and retention, infrastructure, and public safety. After the vote, state Rep. Jim Haadsma (D-Battle Creek) issued the following statement on the budget:

“I’ve been fortunate to see firsthand how well-crafted legislation can make tangible positive changes in people’s lives. I’m confident that this comprehensive state budget is going to make a difference in our community. We have robustly reinvested in the people of Michigan by providing millions in grants to energize our growing labor force and to address infrastructure concerns, including an infusion of $5.3 million for Calhoun County roads. The budget also dedicates $300 million in School Aid funding to the MI Kids Back on Track program — for which I’m especially grateful because it will provide tutoring for students who need the extra boost post-pandemic.”
