LANSING, Mich., May 12, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its recommended fiscal 2023-24 budget on Wednesday. It includes the largest investment in education in Michigan’s history, including free lunch and breakfast for every student and affordable pre-K for all, as well as substantial investments in workforce recruitment and retention, small businesses, and public safety. State Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township), chair of the House Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on the budget:
“This budget reinvests in our communities. It will help us graduate 50 new state troopers to help keep us safe. It provides grants for local small businesses to help keep Michigan’s downtowns thriving. I’m especially proud to have passed educational funding specifically devoted to rural and isolated school districts. I’d like to thank the Appropriations subcommittee chairs and my colleagues in the House for all the hard work they did to help us deliver a fiscally responsible state budget on time.”
