LANSING, Mich., June 29, 2023 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed the state’s fiscal 2023-24 budget yesterday. It includes the largest investment in education in Michigan’s history, including free breakfast and lunch for every public school student and affordable pre-K for all, as well as substantial investments in workforce recruitment and retention, water infrastructure and public safety. The Democratic majority delivered a timely and responsible budget that ensures federal funding stays in Michigan. State Rep. Kelly Breen (D-Novi) issued the following statement applauding the budget:
“Among the many incredible statewide funding areas in our new budget, there are two local wins I’m very proud of. The Novi Community School District will receive $1 million to create a school wellness center featuring on-site physical and mental health support, a tutoring hub, house several community organizations and provide a staff wellness area. I was also able to bring home $200,000 to help Novi Parks develop the Jessica Star Splash Pad for kids and families. To help our first responders and keep our communities safe, my colleagues and I were also able to obtain grants for a much needed fire station renovation in Farmington, and upgrade the Farmington Hills Emergency System. Two amazing local organizations that serve our communities, the Northville Living and Learning Enrichment Center and Farmington Hills CARES, received grants so they can continue their missions as well. I’m thrilled to announce these wins and support a budget that does so much good.”
