MONROE — State Representative Bill LaVoy (D-Town) hosted an education town hall Monday night that brought citizens and elected officials together to discuss the problems facing Michigan’s schools and to debate proposals to address those issues. The town hall followed the release of the Michigan House Democrats’ School Reform Task Force report in September.
“We’ve seen overcrowded classrooms, building closures and outright district dissolution. Our current education policy isn’t working,” LaVoy said. “I hosted this town hall so that people understand the scope of the problem, and so we can work together to develop solutions to give our kids the world-class education they need.”
Special guest state Senator Rebekah Warren (D-Ann Arbor) joined LaVoy at the event, which gave parents, teachers and citizens a chance to speak up about changes to Michigan’s school system after years of policies enacted by a Republican-led Legislature and governor who rarely took their needs into consideration.
