Representative highlights support for lowering costs
LANSING, Mich., Jan. 24, 2024 — Before a joint legislative session today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered this year’s State of the State address. In her speech, the governor discussed her agenda for the new term, which includes lowering costs for Michiganders, expanding educational opportunities and strengthening the state’s economy. State Rep. Natalie Price (D-Berkley) issued the following statement on Whitmer’s address:
“I applaud Gov. Whitmer’s commitment to ensuring that everyone can ‘make it in Michigan.’ Focusing on lowering costs and expanding access to education are vital priorities on our roadmap for our state’s success. In addition, we must ensure that historically overlooked community members are included. I sponsored House Bill 4724, a bipartisan bill to allow 100% disabled veterans and their widows who rent to claim an income tax credit against their full estimated property tax liability. This commonsense policy update would complement the ambitious agenda outlined tonight by keeping veterans, widows, folks with disabilities and renters in their homes. I’m grateful for Gov. Whitmer’s bold vision and partnership as we strengthen our state without leaving anyone behind.”
Since gaining control of the House, Senate and governor’s office last year, Michigan Democrats have laid a strong foundation for our state by putting people first. The fundamental building blocks include repealing the retirement tax, increasing the working families tax credit (EITC), funding free breakfast and lunch for K-12 students, safeguarding access to reproductive health care, investing in public safety and so much more. With efforts including lowering prescription costs, modernizing our infrastructure, and protecting our environment, House Dems will continue to work for the brightest future for all Michiganders.
