“When it comes to adoption, what’s best for the children should always be the guiding principle. Sadly, the Michigan House of Representatives today passed three bills that instead declared an organization’s religious affiliation to be more important than a child’s well-being. As soon as a private entity accepts state tax dollars to provide a public service, it is bound by the Constitution to put aside its religious beliefs that diminish someone else’s rights. These bills blatantly tear away the right of loving families to adopt, and the right of a child to be in a loving family, which is why I voted against them.”
