Attorney General Dana Nessel warns Michiganders of a new impersonation in which criminals pose as the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General. This scam demands people to meet in person to hand off cash. The Social Security Administration Office will never ask for cash or to meet in person. Nessel encourages Michiganders to stay diligent with regards to this problem and urges victims to file a complaint with the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center and report the scam to SSA OIG. Nessel’s Government Imposter Scams alert advises consumers on how to protect themselves against these imposters. The attorney general advises victims of this scam to protect themselves by insulating themselves from the number as well as reporting the number or email as spam. She reminds consumers that government agencies will never threaten or demand any matters of money, nor will they promise to increase benefits if a fee is paid.
