LANSING, Mich., May 8, 2024 — Today, the Michigan House of Representatives passed its budget. From attracting businesses that create more jobs, supporting working families, and helping students achieve success — the proposed budget will make opportunities for Michiganders promising and plentiful. Among its key provisions are significant investments in local governments, housing, child care, education, and public infrastructure. Notably, the budget includes nearly $600 million allocation for a Revenue Sharing Trust Fund, which will bring funds to local towns and villages. Additionally, it adds $111 million for a statewide Public Safety Trust Fund to create stronger hometowns across Michigan. After voting, state Rep. Angela Witwer (Delta Township), House Appropriations chair, issued the following statement:
“At the heart of this budget is a commitment to our hometowns. With smart investments in housing, infrastructure, families and working people — Michigan is the place where people can find good-paying jobs, comfortably raise a family, start a thriving small business, and retire comfortably. While it took a lot of work, our fiscally-responsible and locally-focused investments are making Michigan and its people stronger. We’re also making Michigan a safer place to live with $111 million to establish a new Public Safety Trust Fund supporting law enforcement, emergency response services and violence prevention initiatives. Our budget is a blueprint for strong hometowns — it lays the foundations for new growth and prosperity that all of our neighbors can build upon. Every dollar invested here leads to vibrant towns, comfortable villages and booming cities.”
