LANSING — State Representative Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) will soon attend the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development (BILLD) program in Madison, Wisc. Rep. Greig is one of just three legislators selected to represent the state of Michigan, along with Rep. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) and Rep. Daniela Garcia (R-Holland). The program is a project of the Council of State Governments Midwest.

“Taking part in BILLD is a tremendous opportunity, and I am grateful for the experience,” Greig said. “The program brings together legislators from around the Midwest so that we could learn from each other’s experiences and discuss issues that face our region such as jobs creation, infrastructure and public education.  I look forward to further developing my leadership skills and putting this experience and professional development to work in Lansing.”

The program, now in its 21st year, intends to build bridges across geographical and party lines. Seminar topics include consensus building, civil discourse and legislative strategies. Many notable lawmakers are alumni of the program, including former Michigan Sen. Gilda Jacobs (now head of the Michigan League for Public Policy) and former U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers.

Rep. Greig also announced her coffee hour for August, which will take place Monday, Aug. 10, at the Biggby located at 35243 Grand River Ave. (at the corner of Drake Road) in Farmington from 10-11 a.m. The August 10 event replaces the previously scheduled Saturday, August 15, Town Hall meeting at Farmington Hills City Hall. Monthly city hall meetings will resume in September.

“I look forward to meeting with residents and hearing their ideas to move our state forward,” Greig said. “I also welcome people who have questions or concerns about our state government, or who need help resolving problems with the state.”
