LANSING, Mich., May 12, 2024 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its budget recommendations last week. Included in the budget is an additional $2.5 million grant, for a total of $5 million, to support the mental health of fire fighters, police officers, first responders and public safety staff, a top priority for state Rep. Reggie Miller (D-Van Buren Township). After the vote, Miller issued the following statement:
“We are consistently taking steps toward honoring and supporting Michigan’s first responders and public safety personnel — these hometown heroes face unimaginable challenges every day to keep Michiganders safe. My budget amendment, with $2.5 million toward mental health resources, recognizes that their well-being is essential to the resilience and effectiveness of our neighborhoods. It’s not just an investment in their health — it’s an investment in all of our safety and security.”
