LANSING, Mich., May 14, 2024 — The Michigan House of Representatives passed its budget last week. It includes substantial investments in Michigan students, local economies, safety, and the well-being of Michiganders. House Dems are reinforcing their commitment to building stronger hometowns and improving the day-to-day lives of Michiganders. After voting on the budget, state Rep. Sharon MacDonell (D-Troy) issued the following statement:
“As chair of the Michigan Legislative Disability Caucus, I’m happy to see a number of investments that will help people with disabilities thrive in our state. With over 2.3 million people calling Michigan home who have some kind of disability, we’re making smart investments in the state to better support them. For many people with disabilities, being able to live and work independently is a major goal for them. The House budget invests in the Center for Social Enterprise Development to help disabled persons find employment and help employers become more accommodating. We also made investments in independent living services, making it easier for people with disabilities to live independently. Michigan Democrats are making our state more accessible and accommodating for disabled people.”
