HAZEL PARK, Mich., May 31, 2024 — Hateful white supremacist messages were painted on a Highland Park water tower this week. Located in Detroit but owned by Highland Park, the tower looms over the I-75 and Davison freeway and is seen by thousands of commuters and locals each day. In response to the graffiti, state Rep. Mike McFall (D-Hazel Park) issued the following statement:
“I am appalled and disgusted by the racist vandalism on Highland Park’s water tower. We have a responsibility to ensure this hateful rhetoric has no home in Michigan. Our state is committed to inclusivity and diversity, and these hateful messages do not speak for what our state represents. I stand by Highland Park and Detroit as they clean up this racist vandalism, and we will continue to work together to stop the spread of hate in our society.”
