LANSING, Mich., June 13, 2024 — The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy announced that Benton Charter Township will receive funding from the $6.4 million MI Clean Water Plan. The township will receive almost $20 million for projects to upgrade its water infrastructure, including the construction of two new elevated storage tanks, filter capacity improvements at the water treatment plant, new watermain construction, service line verification and lead service line replacement. In response, state Rep. Joey Andrews (D-St. Joseph) issued the following statement:
“Look — people need to know they can depend on the water that comes out of their faucets as being safe and clean. This is a basic human right. These upgrades will help modernize the infrastructure that our community relies on and ensure that no one will ever have to worry about their water being unsafe for them or their family. This grant represents our commitment to the health and safety of the people of Benton Charter Township, and I am thrilled to see this investment in our community.”
