Dear Neighbor,
Here is some information that I hope you will find helpful, including updates and news from your state government.
It’s Not Too Late to Enroll in Pre-K!
Will your child be 4 years old by Dec. 1? Then now is the time to sign up for FREE high-quality pre-K.
Thanks to a historic investment in the state budget, access to free, high-quality pre-K has expanded in Michigan! Starting in the fall of 2024, all Michigan 4-year-olds can qualify for free pre-K education, prioritizing families that need it most.
Research shows attending a quality pre-K program has a positive impact on a child’s life by preparing them for success in kindergarten and beyond.

New COVID-19 Vaccines Available Soon
Michigan residents will have access to an updated COVID-19 vaccine soon. Because the COVID-19 virus is constantly evolving, new vaccines are required to fight against the changing virus, similarly to the flu shot. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention generally recommends that every person 6 months of age and older receive an updated vaccine. Visit the website here to find a COVID-19 vaccine provider near you.
Stay Cool This Summer
With temperatures soaring, it’s crucial to stay indoors and out of the sun. Need a cooling center? Dial 211 or check 211.org for locations near you. Beat the heat and stay safe!
Office Closed for Labor Day
Happy Labor Day! Let’s honor our country’s workers and their contributions, while continuing to fight for their rights.
My office will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, in observance of the holiday. I wish everyone a safe and restful Labor Day weekend!
Sincerely,
Kara Hope

Medicare Announces Lower Prescription Drug Prices for 10 Popular Medications
It’s important to me that people have access to life-saving drugs. Because of the Inflation Reduction Act, which was signed into law over two years ago, Medicare is now able to negotiate prescription drug prices, saving you money. Check out the list of negotiated prices for ten drugs under Medicare Part D here; these prices will go into effect Jan. 1, 2026.
