LANSING, Mich., Dec. 20, 2024 — The Michigan House of Representatives adjourned yesterday for the remainder of 2024. In response, state Rep. Amos O’Neal (D-Saginaw) issued the following statement:
“I feel it necessary to share my thoughts on what took place during this lame duck session. As many of you have seen, the Michigan House struggled to pass bills during our final days in the majority due to low member attendance.
“I believe that as elected officials, we all start this job out with the same desire to represent not only our specific community but the entire state to the best of our ability. This is not an easy job by any means. Despite this, at the end of every single day, we must fight to uphold the oath we took.
“Without a quorum the last couple days, we missed out on the chance to pass legislation to protect families, to protect workers and to protect Michigan’s future. For that, I want to personally say I am sorry that we did not do more.
“While we accomplished a lot, there is still work to be done. Although this has been a disheartening end to our Democratic majority, I will continue to fight to uphold the oath I took and start every day in this job with hope and faith that there will always be another chance to come together for Michigan and our country.”
