Building people up with Democratic leadership
LANSING, Mich., Jan. 13, 2025 — The 103rd Legislature began last week, and Democratic caucus-elected Leadership stepped into their new roles and responsibilities. With new leadership comes new assistant leadership positions. These positions include assistant floor leaders, assistant caucus chairs and assistant caucus whips.
“We are thrilled to announce our new assistant leadership team, a group of dedicated individuals who will play a key role in keeping us united and guiding us forward,” said Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton). “As we work to build people up, I feel confident in our team and caucus.”
Joining Floor Leader John Fitzgerald (D-Wyoming) as assistant floor leaders are state Reps. Jimmie Wilson, Jr. (D-Ypsilanti), Cynthia Neeley (D-Flint), and Carol Glanville (D-Walker). State Reps. Kara Hope (D-Holt) and Julie Rogers (D-Kalamazoo) were chosen as assistant caucus chairs to provide support to Caucus Chair Stephanie Young. Additionally, Caucus Whip Jennifer Conlin (D-Ann Arbor) has added four new members to her team — state Rep. Matt Koleszar (D-Plymouth) will serve as deputy assistant whip, and state Reps. Denise Mentzer (D-Mt. Clemens), Erin Byrnes (D-Dearborn) and Tonya Myers-Phillips (D-Detroit) were chosen as assistant whips.
