LANSING, Mich., Jan. 15, 2025 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer delivered her “Road Ahead Address” at the Detroit Auto Show today. Her speech touched on Michigan’s path forward, with a focus on infrastructure, good paying jobs and ensuring the state’s economy continues to thrive. In response to this event, Democratic Leader Ranjeev Puri (D-Canton) issued the following statement:

“Today’s address by the governor is a good reminder that Michigan must continue to be a driving force in the automotive industry and quality infrastructure. Last term, I served as chair of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation — that experience gave me a full understanding of the importance of a fiscally responsible budget that is delivered on time. As the term unfolds, the Legislature must prioritize investments in sustainable practices that will maintain and uplift Michigan’s safety and mobility. Smart investments mean more lead-free water lines, sturdier bridges, smoother roads and good paying jobs in the construction and automotive industries. I look forward to working with my fellow lawmakers and the governor to cultivate opportunities as we continue building people and our state up for a better road ahead.”
