State Rep. Natalie Price (D-Berkley) speaks with The Daily Show about efforts to prevent ghost guns at the Michigan Capitol in Lansing.
BERKLEY, Mich., March 10, 2025 — The Daily Show broadcast a segment highlighting state Rep. Natalie Price’s (D-Berkley) work with the Michigan State Police (MSP) to ensure all gun parts slated for destruction after buyback programs are demolished. During the 2023-24 Legislature, Price and then-state Rep. Felicia Brabec (D-Pittsfield Twp.) sponsored House Bills 6144–46, now Public Acts 265-267 of 2024, to codify the complete destruction of firearms that are relinquished to MSP. Previously, while some parts of firearms were destroyed, other components were sold for parts, creating a secondary gun market of untraceable “ghost guns.” Following the broadcast, Price issued the following statement:
“We’ve passed smart policy to protect people from gun violence, but the work is not over. Ghost guns still pose major threats to our neighborhoods and public safety. Being untraceable, they are often only known to the government after being used in a crime. As a result, it is even harder to root them out and hold perpetrators accountable. I’m grateful for the partners at MSP who also recognize the gravity of this issue and have updated their process to pulverize returned guns so they’re destroyed once and for all. Taking the diverted gun market seriously is crucial to keeping our kids and communities safe.”
