“I voted against the transportation package that came before the House late last night. The package raises taxes on working families by hundreds of millions of dollars and increases registration fees by 20%. Additionally, the package relies on a dangerous and undefined $800 million in cuts to the state’s general fund that will quickly create additional funding difficulties for education, public safety, health care, and other key programs in our state. The plan fails to invest adequately in transportation and it does not address issues like weight limits on trucks.
“On top of not fixing our roads the package provides an income tax reduction that disproportionately helps the wealthy instead of addressing what Michigan needs – a balanced solution to a problem that affects everyone throughout the state. Instead, this plan is another corporate and upper class tax break that places the brunt of the road funding costs on the backs of Michigan working families.”
