Digital Media Content Creator

The Michigan House Democrats are seeking a motivated and tech-savvy individual to join our dynamic communications team and play a vital role in creating dynamic video content to engage with constituents across the state.
This position is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in creating engaging video content that educates, informs, persuades and rallies support for Democratic priorities and legislation. You will be at the forefront of the digital conversation, helping to connect Michigan constituents with their elected representatives and the critical work being done in the state legislature. The right person for this position knows what is current and trending on social media and can in turn create content that uses or dialogues those trends through a political lens. Candidate Requirements:

Technically proficient, creatively adept, and politically minded.

A proven track record and self-motivation, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.

The ability to quickly learn and master new technologies and digital tools.

Produce high-quality, compelling video content for social media platforms.

Capture footage and b-roll at legislative events, press conferences, rallies, and town halls.

Proficient in industry-standard video-editing tools such as Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier or comparable software.

Create compelling video content such as interviews with lawmakers, behind-the-scenes looks at legislative work, and coverage of events that highlight key policy issues.

Edit video content into succinct, shareable formats optimized for each social media platform, ensuring consistency with the Michigan House Democrats’ voice, branding, and messaging.

Knowledge of what is trending on socials and an ability to translate those trends into a persuasive, engaging political context that reflects the brand of the Michigan House Democrats.

Adapt video content to fit various formats and styles for social media platforms like Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok, X, BlueSky, Threads and YouTube videos to engage with different audience demographics.

Provide live-streaming support for key events, ensuring coverage of significant legislative developments or public outreach efforts.

Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Work with the communications team to ensure that video content aligns with broader messaging goals, including promoting legislative achievements, amplifying Democratic values, and engaging voters.

Proven track record for increasing social media engagement.

Foster engagement on social media by creating content that sparks conversation and promotes dialogue on important political issues.

Produce rapid-response video content during important legislative debates, political events, or in response to news stories that affect Michigan.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Film, Video Production, Communications, Journalism, Political Science, or a related field.
Experience:
2+ years of experience in video production, editing, and social media content creation, with a preference for experience in a political or advocacy environment.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.).
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, BlueSky) and best practices for video content.
- Experience with live-streaming tools and video production equipment.
- Knowledge of digital video formats, compression, and optimization techniques.
Skills:
- Strong storytelling abilities and creative vision for producing engaging video content.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt tone and style for different platforms.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines
in a fast-paced political environment.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, depending on legislative sessions and events.
- Ability to travel to different locations within Michigan for video shoots and event coverage.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle urgent, time-sensitive situations with professionalism and tact.
Benefits and Compensation:
This position is mid-level and will be a full-time salary (40 hours/week). Full-time salaried entry-level: $58,000 per year. In addition, the Michigan House of Representatives provides comprehensive benefits, with full-time salaried benefits which include but are not limited to:
- Insurance — House employees receive medical, dental and vision insurance. The plans offered are some of the most comprehensive employer-sponsored plans in the area and are available at a low cost to employees.
- Vacation Time — House employees receive 26 vacation days per year. With the exception of session days (typically around 100 days/year.)

Paid Holidays — House employees receive 12 paid holidays per year.

Employer-Matched 401(k) — Employees automatically receive a 4% 401(k) contribution from the House, plus the first 5% of employee contributions are matched. For example, an employee that opts to contribute 5% to their 401(k) will receive a 9% contribution from the House, subject to vesting requirements.
