Dear Neighbor,
Over the past month, I’ve had the privilege of attending several events with our Hispanic community, joining the governor for bill signings and introducing new legislation. Now, as we transition from spring to summer, it’s the perfect time to enjoy everything the 84th District has to offer. The warmer months provide a great opportunity to get outside, connect with neighbors and give back through community volunteering.
As always, don’t hesitate to reach out to my office by phone at (517) 373-0476 or email at CAGlanville@house.mi.gov. And follow me on social media for the most up-to-date information.
Yours in service,
Carol Glanville

Carol in the Community:
This past month, I’ve been busy in Lansing and District 84, collaborating with my colleagues and engaging with constituents. From advocacy days to grand openings, I’m excited about all the wonderful work and insightful conversations taking place across the district.
Older Michiganians Day
I had a great time speaking at Older Michigan’s Day on the Capitol lawn. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our seniors from across the state, hear their stories and celebrate the contributions they’ve made to our communities.
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Groundbreaking Ceremony
I joined my colleagues to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Center for Latino Economic and Talent Advancement, a vital initiative that will support workforce development and prepare the next generation of Latino leaders for strong careers and bright futures here in West Michigan.
César E. Chávez Cinco de Mayo Luncheon
It was an honor to join my colleagues at the Cinco De Mayo luncheon to recognize the important work of the committee in honoring César Chávez and their efforts to support students through scholarships. The food and dancing were absolutely fantastic!

Legislative Update:
Recently, the governor hosted a bill signing, with four of my bills from last term.
- House Bill 5434: Designates a portion of M-11 as the “Korean War Veterans Memorial Drive.”
- House Bill 5649: Requires public high schools to offer a computer science course.
- House Bill 5522: Amends the Midwestern Higher Education Compact Act to add the Director of the Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) — or his or her designee — as a nonvoting member of Michigan’s delegation to the Midwest Higher Education Commission.
- House Bill 5523: This bill, paired with House Bill 5060, repeals the Michigan Economic and Social Opportunity Act and replaces it with the “Bureau of Community Action and Economic Opportunity Act.” It retains most of the original provisions, keeping the Bureau within the Department of Health and Human Services and continuing its role in supporting low-income individuals.
I also introduced my bill for an Age Appropriate Design Code, establishing certain standards for businesses that provide online services, products and features that are reasonably likely to be accessed by children. The goal of these standards is to protect children’s privacy, information, geolocation and more. The bill is designed to put more responsibility on businesses to provide data privacy for minors online.
Coffee Hour:
My next coffee hours will be Friday, June 13, at 10 a.m., and Monday, June 16, at 6 p.m. at Cellar Bird Books (415 Bridge St. NW, Suite B, Grand Rapids). Come share any concerns that are important to you and your community and hear what legislation will be on the docket for the remainder of the year. Hope to see you there!
