LANSING — State Representative Julie Plawecki (D-Dearborn Heights) introduced House Resolution 241, commemorating March 2016 as American Red Cross Month in the state of Michigan. The resolution recognizes and appreciates the Red Cross for its accomplishments in emergency response and disaster relief. HR 241 was adopted by the Michigan House of Representatives today.
“I’ve witnessed firsthand the work that the Red Cross has been doing in Flint, and I commend their extraordinary efforts,” Plawecki said. “Michigan often commemorates March as Red Cross Month, but this year, the Red Cross went above and beyond with their work for the city of Flint and its residents by providing them with much needed assistance during this devastating water crisis.”
The Red Cross stands with its mission to assist in emergencies by deploying volunteers and utilizing donors to assuage human suffering through the help of more than 700 chapters across the country. Additionally, the Red Cross has been doing tremendous work with its Flint Water Crisis efforts. The primary co-sponsor of the resolution is state Rep. Phil Phelps (D-Flushing).
“The Red Cross has really stepped up and done so much for the residents of Flint amidst the Water Crisis, and I am honored to have such an amazing and helpful organization in my district,” said Phelps. “I am deeply appreciative of their efforts and dedication to the residents of Flint.”
