“We need solutions that are going to address the academic needs of our students on every level, in and out of the classroo. “What was the point of creating an entirely new district if we were not going to give DPSCD a real opportunity to provide a great education to our kids? Simply shutting a school down in a non-transparent process is not a solution. Detroit legislators, leaders and teachers have been trying to make the best of a challenging situation and create real, tangible change for our city’s kids. We also need to ensure that any school closing process allows community members to have a voice, like my Detroit Caucus colleagues called for in House Bill 5125, introduced earlier this year. We need to give our schools a chance.”
