LANSING — State Rep. Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) joined her House colleagues today to open the new legislative session at the ceremonial swearing-in held in the House Chamber at the state Capitol. Rep. Brinks was sworn in by state Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack.

“There are a number of important issues I look forward to tackling this term, particularly building on successes of the last four years,” said Rep. Brinks. “I plan to remain vigilant about the changes at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and, more broadly, how we are serving veterans across the state. I also want to see an expansion of economic opportunities for small businesses, as well as the strengthening of our education system, to ensure that every child has access to a quality education. It is my hope that both sides of the aisle will be able to come together to craft meaningful legislation that addresses problems in our city and in our state. I welcome opportunities for collaboration in order to do what’s best for the people of Michigan.”

Rep. Brinks will serve as the House Democratic Caucus’s policy chairwoman for the 2017-18 legislative term, as well as representing House District 76, which encompasses part of Grand Rapids. Rep. Brinks can be contacted toll-free by phone at (855) 747-4WIN, by email at winniebrinks@house.mi.gov, or through her website, brinks.housedems.com.
