LANSING — State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) applauded the efforts of General Motors Co. and Honda after their announcement of a groundbreaking partnership to innovate fuel-cell system manufacturing in Brownstown Township.
“I am excited by the announcement of up to 100 new jobs in my hometown of Brownstown. This investment is more evidence that Downriver manufacturing is strong and continuing to grow,” Camilleri said in support of the project at a Michigan Strategic Fund board meeting Monday. “The base of skilled workers in our area, and the commitment of automotive companies like General Motors and Honda, show that Downriver has a big role to play as automakers continue to drive innovation into the future.”
The MSF board approved the $2 million grant request for the project, which includes a $48.9 million private investment from the two companies. The partnership between the two automakers, titled Fuel Cell System Manufacturing LLC, will produce hydrogen fuel cell systems in the Brownstown General Motors facility. The site will be renovated to accommodate new advanced manufacturing and will be fully operational by 2020.
