AUBURN HILLS — State Rep. Robert Wittenberg (D-Oak Park) and members of the House CARES Task Force held its most recent meeting today at the Oakland County Health Network in Auburn Hills. The panel heard from more than 15 individuals in the treatment, law enforcement, local government, health care and advocacy areas, as well as people receiving treatment for mental health and substance abuse issues.

“The issues of mental health and substance abuse have touched communities across Michigan, and Oakland County is no exception,” Wittenberg said. “I’m thankful for the range of important testimony we heard today, and I look forward to continuing these meetings and addressing these critical issues.”

The bipartisan House CARES (Community, Access, Resources, Education and Safety) Task Force was formed to develop policy solutions to the opioid crisis, mental health resources, jail diversion and more. The next task force meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3, at the state Capitol in Lansing.
