LANSING — State Rep. Robert Kosowski (D-Westland) and members of the House CARES Task Force held their fourth meeting today at the state Capitol in Lansing. Six members of the medical, law enforcement and advocacy communities, along with members of the public, gave testimony on the issues of mental health care, substance abuse treatment, policing and more.

“The work this task force is doing is incredibly important. I’m glad that the House is tackling these issues, and I’m proud to be a part of it,” Kosowski said. “We have heard a lot of professional insight and compelling stories, and I believe my colleagues and I will develop positive changes in this area.”

The bipartisan House CARES (Community, Access, Resources, Education and Safety) Task Force was formed to develop policy solutions to the opioid crisis, mental health resources, jail diversion and more. The next task force meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 11, at the Team Wellness Center in Detroit.
