LANSING — State Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton) introduced House Bill 5190 today to expand the Michigan Liquor Control Code to include the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Tour Champions Tournament in the list of sporting events to be issued a national sporting event liquor license. The PGA Tour held an annual Buick Open event at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc for 45 years through 2009, and is expected to return to the Michigan golf course next year.
“For years, golf tournaments in our community attracted some of the top names in golf, including Tiger Woods, Billy Casper and Vijay Singh, to name a few. It only makes sense that we encourage the tour to return to Grand Blanc by allowing them to receive this license,” Sneller said. “This world-class golf tournament will bring a much-needed economic boost to Grand Blanc and the greater Flint area. Encouraging the PGA to host a tournament in my district will result in an increase in tourism dollars to hotels, restaurants, stores and other local businesses in our community. I want to thank my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for supporting this important legislation.”
The PGA Tour will be returning to Warwick Hills in 2018 for the Ally Challenge. The tournament will take place the week of Sept. 10-16, 2018.
