LANSING — This evening, the Michigan House of Representatives voted on House Bill 5013, which makes various changes to the state’s auto no-fault insurance system. The bill failed to pass, and in response, state Rep. Terry J. Sabo (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement:
“We all want to see rates reduced for the drivers in our state, but we want to see that happen in a way that does not also reduce their coverage or force families into bankruptcy to get coverage, and that’s why I had to vote against HB 5013. If we’re truly looking to reform auto insurance, we should instead be focusing on the Fair and Affordable No-Fault Reform plan, which would bring fairness to insurance rates and reduce costs for seniors by increasing transparency, cracking down on fraud, and prohibiting the inclusion of non-driving factors when calculating rates. This plan would offer immediate savings without jeopardizing families, and that’s a win for everyone in my book, including the people of Muskegon.”
