LANSING — This evening, the Michigan House of Representatives voted on House Bill 5013, which makes various changes to the state’s auto no-fault insurance system. The bill failed to pass, and in response, state Rep. Jon Hoadley (D-Kalamazoo) issued the following statement:
“This bill was like trying to fix a flat tire by putting air back in it without repairing the hole that caused the flat in the first place. The bill we voted on did not fix the reason for our high auto insurance prices, but it would guarantee reduced coverage and potential bankruptcy for survivors due to medical bills. I want a vote on the bipartisan Fair and Affordable Reform package, as it would provide real price relief, control medical costs, and deal with abuse or fraud — things the people of our state really need. Michigan drivers deserve a vote on the Fair and Affordable Reform package, not the vote on HB 5013 we had today.”
