LANSING — State Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) took the oath of office today to represent House District 1 through the end of 2018. Yancey takes the seat held by former Rep. Brian Banks, who resigned early this year.
“I am ready to get to work and be a strong advocate in Lansing for the people of the 1st House District,” said Yancey, who previously served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Juvenile Division of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office and as a member of the Harper Woods Board of Education. “Students deserve a 21st Century education, with the best teachers, modern technology, an overabundance of books, and welcoming and safe buildings that encourage learning. I’m ready to fight for them and our senior citizens so that residents of all ages have the resources they need to live comfortable lives.”
Yancey represents House District 1, which comprises the cities of Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe Woods and parts of Detroit and the Village of Grosse Pointe Shores.
