LANSING — This week, Republican legislators are considering efforts to strip away critically important benefits for retired police and firefighters, such as health care. In response, House Appropriations Democratic Vice Chair Fred Durhal III (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“Police officers and firefighters have extremely difficult and dangerous jobs, putting their safety and well-being on the line to protect our communities. Any attempt to take away their health care or retirement benefits is an insult to their years of service. These brave men and women have earned their benefits, and I will fight against any misguided legislation that attacks our first responders.”
