LANSING — Today, the Michigan House of Representatives voted on House Resolution 234 calling for the resignation of Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simon. In response, Rep. Sara Cambensy (D-Marquette) issued the following statement:
“While Larry Nassar should be held to the highest accountability and prosecuted to the highest extent of the law for his actions, it is the trustees of the University who are elected to hold the President accountable, to whom I feel this Resolution should be addressed. Just as an elected city commission, township board or county board is responsible for the hiring or firing of their manager or administrator — not the staff that works under them — I feel it’s the board of trustees at Michigan State that fell short of their duties to make sure the tragic acts that Larry Nassar performed were being vetted and fully acted upon immediately.”
