LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives passed House Bill 4321 to add an extra $175 million in road funding for the 2017-18 fiscal year. In response, state Rep. Brian K. Elder (D-Bay City) issued the following statement:
“For years, my Republican colleagues have been touting their 2015 road funding plan, and yet for years, Michigan drivers have paid more at the pump while our roads have continued to deteriorate. Today was a step in the right direction toward recognizing that far more work needs to be done to make our roads less hazardous, and I was proud to vote in favor of this additional funding for road repairs in our state. Bay County is estimated to receive more than $825,000, while Bay City itself is expected to receive more than $288,000 for road repairs — thanks to our vote today, my people will have safer roads to travel and they will be able to keep more of their money by saving on car repair costs. Moving forward, I will continue to prioritize road funding throughout the budget cycle so that our state’s drivers are no longer stuck footing the bill for Republican mistakes.”
