LANSING — April 10 is Equal Pay Day, representing the symbolic day in 2018 that a woman would have to work until to earn what a man made at the end of 2017. In response, House Democratic Floor Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:
“Paying the same wage to the people who do the same job and who are equally qualified isn’t just common sense, it’s also a matter of justice and security. Yet we’ve seen the wage gap for women persist decade after decade — and it’s even worse for women of color. Passing legislation aimed at eradicating wage discrimination should be on every legislator’s agenda, because we all should want our moms, daughters, sisters and selves to be treated equally in the workplace. Unfortunately, year after year, this legislation sits in the Republican Legislature without getting a hearing. The time for equal pay is now, and I call on my colleagues in the Legislature and my fellow citizens all across the state to demand equal pay for equal work.”
