LANSING — State Rep. Tim Sneller (D-Burton) introduced House Resolution 318 this week to declare May 1, 2018, as Law Day in the state of Michigan. The theme for Law Day 2018 is “Separation of Powers: Framework for Freedom” to recognize the importance of a system of government with distinct and independent branches — executive, legislative and judicial.
“For our system of government to be truly for the people, it is important that each branch serves as a check on the power of the other branches,” Sneller said. “I am pleased to have introduced this resolution on behalf of the Genesee County Bar Association to recognize Law Day in our state, and I appreciate the support of my colleagues in understanding the importance of this day.”
Congress issued a joint resolution in 1961 declaring May 1 as Law Day, which has been held annually ever since as a recognition and celebration of our justice system and rule of law.
