LANSING — Today, the House Appropriations Committee took testimony on a bill that would endanger Medicaid coverage for nearly one million Michiganders. In response, state Rep. Yousef Rabhi (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:
“The Healthy Michigan Medicaid expansion has been a great success; now more than one in five Michiganders is able to access health care through Medicaid and CHIP. Unfortunately, this bill would put unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles between hardworking people and the health care services they need to survive. It’s not about work; it’s about paperwork. Contrary to what supporters of this bill claim, it’s incredibly difficult to work when you aren’t healthy. Medicaid is an earned benefit system that we take on together, as a state, because Michiganders understand that everyone deserves the opportunity to be healthy. This bill is heartless and misguided, and I hope the people of Michigan are watching closely as Republicans rob them of their health care coverage.”
